My work is rooted in my unending curiosity about the world. I’m drawn to the moments in between: the ideas simmering under the surface of the more widespread narrative; the details begging to be discovered within the wider shot. As an artist I am torn between being present and engaged versus being thoughtfully observant and removed. In my work I attempt to reconcile the feeling of being pulled toward two different ways of being while honoring the idea that there is always more than one perspective and sometimes more than one right answer.
I often combine photography, fibers, encaustic painting and collage to create mixed media works that explore this tension and reflect on how the current climate supports the always-on, content creating, immediate gratification impulses and how our bodies and minds, even our physical world, are demanding a different way of being. Drawing from thought leaders in mindfulness and wholehearted living and influenced by artists such as Hilma Klint, Robert Rauschenberg, Sally Mann, and Ori Gersht, I explore the tension of what is and what we want or wish it to be.
